This is some professional level stuff, good sir. I'd honestly wouldn't be surprised if something like this were in the next D&D handbook. What programs and tools did you use to make such a fine piece?

jaccabe responds:

Thank you for the compliment. I typically use pencil/sticky notes to sketch out a quick idea. Then it's straight to Photoshop with a couple of custom brushes to do the painting/clean up.

Rad! Kind of reminds me of late 80's Ghibli films and Robot Carnival.

thdark responds:

Love that sort of stuff, but I've never heard of Robot Carnival before, it looks awesome. I just watched the opening short, which looks like it was done in part by Katushiro Otomo, which was great, I'll have to watch this sometime!

Would you say drawing feet is your Achilles' Heel? But seriously, I really dig the designs you do for your characters, sort of like an anime meets western animation vibe going on.

G3no responds:

yeah ahahha you could say that. but that character isn't mine. it belongs to a Chilean studio.
thanks a lot

Pretty sweet! One question: did you color this with colored pencils and then scan it? Cause I've noticed you get a certain detail when doing it this way.

Morthagg responds:

Thanks! And yeah, the linework is ink and the rest is all (coloured) pencil. I think it looks a little better on paper though, converting it to .gif made the colouring a bit more harsh.

I love this; the character is very individualized and animated. I want to know this girl's backstory, her origins, her goals, what's she's doing and how she's going to do it. I've always found that a true mark to a great character is if the viewer is enticed by them by only one panel, they're good enough.

I'd really be interested to see this character in an ongoing series like a comic book or an animation if you're really feeling bold enough to do it. Whatever you're doing, I'd just like to point out that I love your style and I will be enjoying more of your work to come.

marsoupskin responds:

Why would the pizza guy serve pizza outside his window and not at the counter?
